The Graduate School of Global Studies has about seventy faculty members, and almost two hundred students encompassing three dozen nationalities. Within it, Japanese Studies are taught as one of the three areas in the English-taught Graduate Program in Global Studies (GPGS), which encourages comparative, glocal, and transnational studies that emphasize Japan and East Asia, and their links to other parts of the world. The GPGS offers MA and PhD degrees in Japanese Studies, and also a Double Degree Program (MA) with SOAS University of London (the School of Oriental and African Studies).
