What is the difference between a full Japan member and an associate Japan member?
Full Japan members:Higher education institutions (i.e., individual faculties and graduate schools) and research institutions within Japan that approve of the Consortium’s purpose
Associate Japan members:Associations and consortiums within Japan composed of multiple higher education institutions and research institutions that approve of the Consortium’s purpose; and governmental and other institutions within Japan that approve of the Consortium’s purpose

What are the benefits of joining the Consortium?
- Members will have access to the latest developments in Global Japanese Studies through the members-only webpage and mailing list.
- Researchers and graduate students from the member institutions can take advantage of various opportunities like presenting research at international symposia and workshops organized or co-hosted by the Consortium.
- Members may submit research grant proposals to the Consortium for expenses involved in nurturing the next-generation scholars, promoting international academic exchanges, and conducting team research with researchers from member institutions.

What cooperation expected from the member institution upon joining the Consortium?
In principle, the representative (who need not be the institutional head) of the member institution is expected to attend the Steering Committee meetings (usually held 3 times in an FY, either online or face to face). -
What are the procedures to join the Consortium?
Institutions desirous of joining the Consortium need to express their intention to the Consortium Secretariat and obtain consent from at least half of the full members at the Steering Committee meeting.

Associate international members:Associations and consortiums outside Japan composed of multiple higher education institutions and research institutions that approve of the Consortium’s purpose; and governmental and other institutions outside Japan that approve of the Consortium’s purpose

What are the benefits of joining the Consortium?
- Members will have access to the latest developments in Global Japanese Studies through the members-only webpage and mailing list.
- Members can recommend graduate students (doctoral course) as candidates for the Nichibunken Academic Encouragement Award, a program which enables students to stay at the International Research Center for Japanese Studies and engage in research.
- Researchers and graduate students from the member institutions can take advantage of various opportunities like presenting research at international symposia and workshops organized or co-hosted by the Consortium.

What cooperation expected from the member institution upon joining the Consortium?
To exchange opinions in relation to implementing the Consortium’s operations, the representative (who need not be the institutional head) of the member institution is expected to attend a general assembly of the Consortium for Global Japanese Studies (usually held once yearly, either online or face to face). -
What are the procedures to join the Consortium?
Institutions desirous of joining the Consortium need to express their intention to the Consortium Secretariat and obtain consent from the International Exchange Department of the International Research Planning Office in the International Research Promotion Division established within the representative organization.
