The Center for Japanese Studies at Fudan University was established in July 1990. Its purpose is to conduct an in-depth study of the experiences and lessons of Japan’s modernization so as to provide reference for China’s modernization cause, and to further deepen the understanding of Japan and enhance the friendly relations between the two peoples through academic research and exchanges. Fudan University is located in Shanghai, the economic center of China. Therefore, the Center for Japanese Studies has established Sino-Japanese economic relations and Japanese economy as its primary focus, and at the same time, with Sino-Japanese relations as its main axis, to carry out comprehensive research on Japanese politics, economy, society and culture. Fudan University is a national key university with a long history and a full range of disciplines in liberal arts, science, and medicine. It has a large number of senior scholars as well as active young and middle-aged experts engaged in the Japanese studies. On this basis, the Center for Japanese Studies, with its full-time faculty members as the core research team, organizes and coordinates experts and scholars from the whole university to jointly dedicate to Japanese studies and Sino-Japanese exchanges.
