The Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences at Pukyong National University, located in Busan, South Korea, has been conducting interdisciplinary research on the history, culture, and society of the Northeast Asian sea region since its establishment in 1999.With a particular focus on the theme of “sea region and human life,” the institute explores topics such as memory, mobility, environment, and coexistence surrounding the sea from the perspectives of the humanities and social sciences, aiming to develop a Korean model of Blue Humanities.In recent years, through hosting various international conferences, publishing specialized academic journals, and collaborating with local communities, the institute has played a key role as a global hub for sea region studies.
