The Institute for Japanese Studies of Incheon National University was founded in July 2008 with the aim of becoming a center for interdisciplinary Japanese studies. To date, the Institute has promoted various research projects and facilitated dialogues between the humanities and social sciences. Currently, the Institute is organized into three research centers: the Japanese Culture Research Center, the Japanese Region Research Center, and the Japanese Socio-Language Research Center. They address issues of Japanese popular culture, literature, geography, history, linguistics, and pedagogy. In particular, the Institute is deeply interested in the actual problems of contemporary Japanese society and seeks new theories that examine current questions of society.
