University of Zaragoza

The University of Zaragoza was founded in 1542 under the edict of Emperor Charles V. Since then, in these five centuries, it has hosted in its classrooms Nobel Prize winners such as Ramón y Cajal, studies on globally renowned Aragonese artists such as Francisco de Goya, and pioneering collections in Spain such as the Japanese art collection of Federico Torralba. It currently has five campuses in Aragon and annually trains 30,000 students. The University of Zaragoza also has the Japan Research Group, headed by Professor Carmen Tirado Robles. This is the only group in Spain specialized in Japanese Studies and is also a reference group of the Government of Aragon (Spain). The Japan Research Group has been organizing the International Conference on Japanese Studies for more than ten years, coordinating the Master's Degree in Japanese Studies and publishing an annual collection of Japanese Studies with the Aranzadi publishing house and the Torralba Collection of East Asian Studies.
