The National Archives of the Netherlands has been in existence for more than 200 years. With over 143 kilometres of paper archives, more than 300 thousand maps and drawings, over 15 million photographs and nearly 2 petabytes of digital files, the National Archives makes a wealth of information about the Dutch past – both in the Netherlands and in other parts of the world – accessible to everyone. At the National Archives, (online) visitors can see, examine and revisit these authentic sources again and again. This gives us insight into our history and helps us understand how society has become what it is today.
Together with other archives and governmental organisations, the National Archives ensures that today's information is and remains accessible to citizens, now and in the distant future. As a centre of expertise, the National Archives also aims to use its knowledge and experience to improve information management at governmental organisations, since transparency and openness of information are more important than ever.
