The Université Paris Cité is a public research university established in 2019, resulting from the merger of Paris Descartes (formerly Paris V), Paris Diderot (formerly Paris VII) and Paris Institute of Earth Physics. It is a research university that promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, through its three faculties: Health, Sciences, Societies and Humanities. The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilisations was the first graduate school of East Asian languages and Civilisations in France, established in 1971 when the University of Paris VII, the predecessor of the Université Paris Cité, was founded. It is one of France’s most important academic research centers in Asian studies, with Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral Programs, offering teaching and research work in the principal fields of Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese Studies.
