Since its establishment in 1899, the Graduate School of Law at Kyoto University has made significant contributions to the advancement of academia and is a leading center for legal and political science research in Japan. Rooted in the university's "tradition of academic freedom," the Graduate School of Law’s education and research philosophy remains steadfast in its commitment to the pursuit of knowledge through free and equal discussions between faculty and students.
Currently, the Graduate School of Law has over 60 faculty members who all engage in top-level research within their respective fields and apply their expertise to student guidance. Furthermore, the Graduate School of Law promotes interdisciplinary and international research that challenges traditional theoretical frameworks. Through its "Collaborative Research Center for Law and Policy," the Graduate School of Law actively disseminates its research outcomes to and engages with the general public.
