Founded in 1880, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam takes responsibility for people and the planet by delivering values-driven education, research and knowledge transfer. We are free thinkers with expertise and a broader mind. We work together to build a better world for people and the planet.
The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSG) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam was officially established in April 2025 through a merger of the former faculties of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Religion & Theology. FSG is home to over 5,000 students and 900 staff members, offering 18 bachelor’s, 24 master’s, and 40 minor programmes. The faculty fosters interdisciplinary collaboration across its three schools—Humanities, Social Sciences, and Religion & Theology—encouraging critical thinking, global citizenship, and socially engaged research. FSG aims to deepen our understanding of human communities, values, and meaning in a rapidly changing world. It is committed to open inquiry and connecting disciplines to address complex societal challenges.
