National Institute of Japanese Literature

This institute strives to serve researchers in various fields, including Japanese literature by collecting a massive archive of materials related to Japanese literature from various regions within Japan. NIJL is a comprehensive research institute and functions as a foundation for the broader promotion of advanced collaborative research into Japanese literature. Building on more than 50 years of accumulated research on Japanese premodern books since our founding, we are working to develop cross-disciplinary research that utilizes these books as rich intellectual resources, in collaboration with research institutions and scholars both in Japan and abroad.
