The University of Amsterdam was founded in 1632. With over 40,000 students, the University of Amsterdam is one of the largest broad-based research universities in Europe and is consistently ranked among the world’s best universities in global rankings. The Faculty of Humanities covers a broad spectrum of established and pioneering teaching and research: from languages, literary studies, history and philosophy to media studies, arts, religious studies and archaeology. The wide range of research in the humanities takes place within six research schools, home base of the PhD students and senior members that carry out different research programmes. The Faculty also houses Humanities Labs with the 4D Research Lab, Create, Digital Methods Initiative, Music Lab, Sign Lab, Speech Lab and the Conservation and Restoration Labs, a place for innovative research and education, and an inspiring environment for researchers, students and partners.
